We have very exciting news for sixth grade parents and students! During the past year the Park Ridge School District has been carefully planning a 1:1 student laptop initiative. Teachers and administrators received laptop training, as well as professional development regarding instructional use of the laptops in the classroom. All West Ridge and East Brook sixth grade students will be receiving laptops as part of this pilot program.
We know that your children are ready for this great experience. It’s wonderful for them to be able to learn in new and interesting ways during this second half of the school year. Please contact us if you have any questions about this process.
Sincerely,
Sheldon Silver, Principal

Dear Parent/Guardian:
As a result of the events in Newtown, CT, the Park Ridge Police Department has advised me that they will be conducting enhanced patrols at all of our schools, including police officer walk-throughs during the school day. Also, as a precautionary measure, a significant police presence will continue to be noticeable during the morning drop-off and at dismissal.
Presently, I am conducting a district-wide security needs assessment. This activity includes gathering input from students, parents, teachers, administrators and law enforcement officials. Once completed, I will make recommendations to the Park Ridge BOE for security changes and/or enhancements.
I would like to thank Chief Madden for his ongoing support and communication. We continue to speak regularly about student safety.
I am sure you will join me in offering your thoughts and prayers for the families and friends of the Newtown School District.

Park Ridge High School finished at number 14 in the magazine’s 2012 ranking of 328 public high schools.
A list of the Top 100 public high schools appears in the September issue of New Jersey Monthly; a complete list of all 328 rated schools is online atNew Jersey Monthly publishes its list of the best high schools in New Jersey every other year. The rankings are compiled by Leflein Associates, an independent research company in Ringwood, New Jersey, and are based on data reported by the schools to the New Jersey Department of Education. Among the factors taken into consideration are average class size; student/teacher ratio; student results on the SAT, HSPA and AP tests; and graduation rates.
In order to better reflect the actual effectiveness of each school, this year’s list gives additional weight to student results. “This change in methodology is particularly relevant at a time when most districts have had to reexamine spending priorities,” explains New Jersey Monthly editor Ken Schlager.
The September issue of New Jersey Monthly includes articles on key education-related issues, including the pilot program for teacher evaluation and the war over homework in the Garden State. There’s also an interview with Chris Cerf, the state’s education commissioner.
New Jersey Monthly is the state’s top general-interest magazine.
